The 14 artisans who made your bag are self-identifying women who live in the community surrounding the Guatemala City garbage dump. These are women who have taken a risk. They’ve left a far more familiar form of employment scavenging for recyclable materials in the dump, taken a leap of faith and learned a new skill. They’ve overcome innumerable environmental and socio-economic barriers to become the proud producers of mi eelo products.
